To the north east of Scotland sits the scenic county of Angus. Its main city, Dundee, is a fantastic spot for culture, great food and pubs, plus a number of unique elements that make the town famous. Whether you fancy a break in a buzzing, authentic Scottish city or a quiet trip to the country, Angus always delights.
Catch a flight straight to Dundee and you’ll immediately appreciate the ambience of this green, historic city. Famous as the birthplace of Dundee marmalade and the Beano and Dandy comics, the city has a charm that’s impossible to resist. Dive into the local art scene at the splendid McManus Galleries, displaying pieces housed in a striking Gothic Revival Building. Also see the magnificent Broughty Castle, which dates from the 15th century.
There are lots of activities for families to enjoy together in the city, including the Dundee Science Centre, with fantastic hands-on experiences, and catching a game of ice hockey at the modern Ice Arena. Nearby golf courses and hillwalking trails complete the package, and offer something for every type of traveller to the area.
Around the county of Angus itself, there’s so much to do for nature lovers, including bracing walks along the Dundee to Aberdeen coastal route. History lovers can marvel at Glamis Castle, dubbed ‘Scotland’s most beautiful castle’, which is certainly saying something! Appreciate the ancient artefacts and antique furniture on a tour here, as well as a stroll through the manicured gardens.
Aviation enthusiasts will love the Montrose Air Station Centre, with vintage planes on display. A walk through the nearby St Cyrus National Nature Reserve is a particularly serene way to get a feel for the local environment. Then, head into the pretty town of Montrose itself and enjoy a historic skyline against the backdrop of the towering hills in the distance.
Not to be missed is the revered Angus beef. It couldn’t be fresher served in its home county, so tuck into a juicy steak washed down with a pint from local micro-breweries. Angus and Dundee offer everything for the greatest Scottish holiday experience.
