Boot & Shoe Cottage

Boot & Shoe

Kingfishers, woodpeckers and other wild wonders often join self catering guests in the riverside garden of Boot and Shoe Cottage, an idyllic hideaway on the banks of the River Tees in County Durham. Sleeping 4 people, this character property near Barnard Castle and the North Pennines AONB was once a cobbler’s shop and pub. Now it offers a perfect, peaceful base for exploring unspoiled countryside, historic cities and outstanding visitor attractions such as Beamish Open Air Museum, Raby Castle and the Bowes Museum.

The cottage has been carefully restored for its 21st century role. The double bedroom has a king sized bed and the attic-style twin bedroom suits children. An additional en suite twin room can be booked if wished. With a well equipped kitchen/diner, a cosy sitting room with a wood burner, a utility room and separate bathroom and shower, it comes well stocked with books, toys and films plus a welcome hamper of local produce and home baking.

While the back garden features that stunning river scene, the front overlooks fields of sheep and horses. The picturesque Teesdale Way passes near the cottage, which has private fishing and a tennis court. It’s within an hour’s drive of Durham, York and the Lake District and the area is a Global Geopark and Dark Skies area where the stars twinkle unimpaired by light pollution.
