Rothley Fisheries
Traditional fish & chips never tasted so good as those served daily at Rothley Fisheries, now under new management and doubling as both fast food take away and a restaurant.
Customer reviews are full of praise for the tasty food at competitive prices and Rothley Fisheries is the perfect place for coeliacs to go for their fishy fare. All the batter and most of the non-fish options including burgers and sausages are gluten free. Delicious homemade gluten free fishcakes are made on the premises and more ‘free from’ options will be added soon. Vegetarians find great choices including meat free burgers, spring rolls and pineapple fritters.
Customers can choose to have their fish in light or standard batter, steamed or cooked in rice flour. The fish options are cod, haddock, plaice, breaded plaice (not gluten free), lemon sole or salmon.
New owner Andreas Agathangelou says: “Although most of our customers aren’t coeliac, everybody loves the light and crispy gluten free batter.
“Fish & chips is still one of the healthier meal options available. We only fry in rapeseed oil, which is a lot healthier than those most commonly used. All our potatoes are fresh and processed on site.”
Opening times are Tuesday 5 to 9pm, Wed to Saturday 11.45 to 1.30pm and 5 to 9pm.
Pre-booking is advised for the restaurant.

Hercules Revived
Set in the picturesque Leicestershire village of Sutton Cheney, Hercules Revived is an honest English Country Inn. Late in 2012 a team of heritage people and craftsmen totally reformed the tired 17th Century Inn, creating a wonderfully relaxed bar and simple dining on the ground floor with a large open fire, and a series of elegantly decorated, cosy restaurant rooms on the first floor.
Our well seasoned Head Chef, Glyn Windross and his team create hearty English fare with an emphasis on the freshest of seasonal ingredients. We’ve found a lovely bunch of local producers providing everything from meat, fish and vegetables to our wonderfully tasty cheeses.
Hercules Revived evokes memories of how a great English Country Inn should be, so whether you like to eat light or hearty, casual or smart, or just have a relaxed pint you’ll find this could be your perfect bolt hole.

The Royal Redgate
People love finding out at what’s new at the Royal Redgate pub/restaurant where the hospitality has been pleasing customers for more than 300 years and just keeps getting better and better.
Everything served up at the privately owned Royal Redgate is freshly made from top quality ingredients including finest beef from a local farm, luxurious ice cream and rich cheeses from two family businesses and stone baked pizzas hand made on the premises.
Those pizzas are proving popular, not only Italian-style favourites but unique creations like the Redgate Special majoring on ham hock, pastrami and Bosworth Field cheese.
On top of that diners can enjoy fine steaks, delicious pies, seafood dishes and scrummy desserts or partake of a lighter lunch menu packed with appetising baguettes, jacket potatoes and many other options.

The Royal Redgate is well known for its well kept draft and bottled ales, fine wines, moreish selection of spirits and fresh coffee. It has now added an enticing new range to its cocktail choices. Customers can fill their glasses with delectably wicked choices like the OMG & T featuring Gordon’s gin, elderflower tonic, lime and fresh berries or perhaps an Espresso Martini with vodka, Bailey’s, espresso and honey.
People go back to the Royal Redgate again and again, partly because of its highly convenient location on the junction of the A5 and A444 on the borders of Leicestershire and Warwickshire between Hinckley and Atherstone. It is a large pub with a pleasant garden overlooking countryside and is spacious, full of character and perfect whether you are a couple out for an intimate dinner or a large party of people with a milestone to mark.
“There’s a good vibe in the restaurant and it’s busy most of the time,” says owner Luke. “We go for quality in everything we do.”

The Lime Kilns
Perfect pies are just one of the attractions to look forward to at the Lime Kilns, a cosy, canalside country pub in Hinckley, Leicestershire which now wins the Living in the Shires magazine Award of Excellence for Freshly Prepared Food, our Pie Tasting Experience of the Year.
Locals and visitors including boaters from far afield love the well kept real ales and craft ciders that have made the Lime Kilns a regular entry in the CAMRA Good Pub Guide. This free house run by landlord Gary Buswell and his wife, Jill, has maintained a great name among the drinking public for many years.
But more and more people are discovering it for the excellent pub grub on offer every lunchtime and evening except Sunday evening, including the array of traditional and unusual pies hand baked by Jill. They include popular varieties like beef and ale and chicken and mushroom, novelty offerings like fish and chip pie and seasonal variations like lamb and blackberry.
Unlike other, inferior pies, Lime Kilns pies always have pastry all round, top and bottom.
The Lime Kilns has a rich history dating back to the 1700s when the Ashby Canal was being created to cross under the A5 Watling Street which runs alongside, close to the Hinckley/Nuneaton border. At that time it was called The Plough and included stabling for horses. The main bar and food area of the pub is on the first floor but that ground floor area, formerly known as the Boaters’ Bar, has been reinvented as The Stable Room, a dog friendly area with disabled access where people can sit when they have muddy boots or it is too wet to sit in the garden.

“People used to call it The Dungeon but we have made it light and bright,” says Gary.
