Since 1967 Milners Bakery has developed a great reputation for delivering top quality bread, buns, cakes, pastries and other deliciously tempting treats fresh every morning. Now, in its Golden Anniversary year, it is going from strength to strength.
This year Milners Bakery owner Toby Milner was a finalist in the baking industry Baker of the Year awards, competing against the best in the business and finishing in the top three. Milners brioche burger buns have helped fast food shops win their own awards. The wholesale side of the business is developing apace alongside its five shops in south Leicester and county, in Aylestone, Saffron Lane, Blaby, Broughton Astley and South Wigston.
Toby grew up in the business started by his dad, John Milner, working alongside him from age 14 until he died in 2015. Now Toby runs it with his wife, Tammy, reinvesting in the latest equipment and always being innovative.
“Ultimately we try to make the best product with the best ingredients available,” says Toby. “I could save money using cheaper butter or chocolate but quality always counts.”
Toby uses many of his own recipes for lines like cakes, brownies, flapjacks and speciality breads like his plum yeast sourdough loaves. He also works with pub and other commercial customers to develop their ideas into their very own unique products.
