Eating out is truly magnifique at the Red Lion in Hunningham, near Leamington Spa, where a subtle French influence is found across the menu. Alongside traditional pub favourites like steak and pie you’ll find classics from the far side of the Channel, like boeuf bourguignon, coq au vin and Camembert sharing platters.
People love their long, lazy feastings in the Red Lion restaurant or sunkissed garden. In summer up to 500 people at a time eat there.
The cosmopolitan influence comes first & foremost from French owner Richard Merand, an accomplished chef. It is championed by head chef Adrian Lobo, whose career took him into the kind of fine dining restaurants originated by 19th century French restauranteur Auguste Escoffier.
Adrian learned the precision crafting of meals the fine dining way in celebrated restaurants in Ascot and Chiswick. He also wowed showgoers at the O² Arena, perfected pastries and mastered the flavoursome South American techniques of the Gaucho steakhouse chain in Uruguay.
“Red Lion customers have the option of pub food like burgers, fish & chips, but the menu has leaned French,” he says. “We also to make the plates artistic, using edible flowers and suchlike, when it’s not too madly busy!”
