Holidaymakers can experience the very best that Shetland has to offer by booking into Bay Cottage, purpose built self catering accommodation only a few minutes’ walk from a sandy beach where killer whales often drop by and seals are part of the resident population.
This delightful property was designed by the owner, architectural technician and father of four Michael Adamson, to include everything needed for families to enjoy the surroundings to the full. That includes a spacious open plan living area and kitchen/dining room with outstanding views over the Bay of Hoswick, a utility room for getting everything clean and dry after an active day out, one double and one twin bedroom and a safe, secure garden.
Guests enjoy privacy, yet are only a stroll away from the pretty village of Sandwick, which has welcoming places to eat, socialise and buy supplies. Bay Cottage is between Shetland’s main town of Lerwick – a bustling seaport – and Sumburgh with its airport, lighthouse and nature reserve.
Through winter it’s also a great location for seeing one of nature’s great spectacles, the strange and ethereal colours of the Northern Lights.
“The Aurora Borealis pops up quite often,” says Michael. “If you are up and about late in the evening in winter you might even see it several nights in a row.”
